Dreams and Dollars

Many ballplayers say it because they've heard others. They think it's what we want to hear in a press conference sound bite.

"It's been my [lifelong or childhood] dream to play for the [add team name here.]" Cameras flash while the athlete is at the podium. Reporters dutifully scribble notes for the next day's story in which they'll repeat the drivel.

Do they think we were born yesterday? Those of us, not playing in the same monetary atmosphere, always know one true reason nearly all players sign the contract they do.

Dreams can be bought for the right price.
