She paused to breathe and listen. Footsteps, though not hurried, behind her. With the echo, it was impossible to tell how close.
She glanced up the stairs. Cameras? Hopefully, they're live, she thought, as she trekked up. A door, more footsteps, fading.
On the top landing, she tried two doors to the right. Nothing. She looked down. He was there, still and watching. She looked left, the way the sound of those other steps had disappeared to. Friend or foe, she didn't know.
"No choice. Have to go that way." As he started up, she bolted. "Oh, please, Lord. Please."
